Adelaide Botanic High School is a coeducational public secondary school situated on Frome Road in Adelaide, South Australia. The school’s campus is situated on land adjoining the Adelaide Botanic Garden and the former site of the Royal Adelaide Hospital and University of South Australia.
Adelaide Botanic High School is the first truly vertical school in South Australia. The school features six learning levels plus a basement and an open-planned atrium space at ground level. Learning spaces have been designed to cater for a contemporary, interdisciplinary approach to learning which mirrors what students can expect when they enter tertiary study or the modern workplace.

With research underpinning every innovation, their guiding values of Community, Curiosity and Excellence are the building blocks of their unique DNA. Each element of the student’s learning experience is designed to present them with a virtual tour of the education and workplace landscapes they will inhabit. So as their graduates fall into future at full speed, they are equipped with the knowledge, adaptability, and resilience to thrive.
Showcasing the new vertical campus and facilities.
With COVID-19 restrictions in Australia stating that no parents could access any educational establishment, it was challenging for parents to connect with their children’s new learning environment. This new website and content were constructed in a way that takes into account the changing needs of their community.
By providing insights into the new campus, they were able to give their community a chance to see what is happening in the school. It has given the community a window into the new facility, reducing anxiety felt by parents and other members by allowing them to feel part of the experience and journey.
The new website featured several unique and interactive elements to enhance the user experience including an interactive map indicating the location of the campus in relation to several well-known landmarks around Adelaide. This immersive approach provided a real flavour of life at the ‘new’ Adelaide Botanic High School, with a warm and welcoming tone.
A website full of features to be proud of.
Beyond Web designed the website to look sleek and modern, allowing the impressive branding and images to speak for themselves, without too many distractions. The menu is unobtrusive and uncluttered, so you can get right to the content.
Adelaide Botanic High School wanted to support their international community. Therefore, they needed a professional translation feature to quickly deliver translations of a high standard across the entire website. The accurate translations have significantly improved the quality of the website and ensures the design stays consistent across all the languages.
Adelaide Botanic High School’s Values were something that Beyond Web wanted to ensure were prominent across their website. The schools core values ‘Their DNA’ feature heavily throughout the website, represented by the branded patterns this allows the school’s values to be immediately obvious to visitors. As well as appearing on the home page, these branded patterns allows them to be seen and explained in a clear and concise way.
Beyond Web is always looking for ways to keep the community in the know about what’s happening at their School. We accomplished this by implementing a blog, so the School can post notices or longer stories with photographs and videos. This keeps the School community engaged and informed.

Having been recommended to approach Beyond Web by one of our other clients, Prahran High School we put together a detailed proposal for Adelaide Botanic High School outlining what we could provide in line with their budget. Even though we met them remotely, we felt that we clicked with Melanie Merlino (Marketing and Communications) and Alistair Brown (Foundation Principal) from the very start. With that confidence, we were able to assess what was needed for an effective website and set out a roadmap for its completion.
As with all Beyond Web school websites, the new Adelaide Botanic High School website is fully responsive across devices. We knew that about half of all searches now happen on mobile devices, so we made sure the site could work efficiently with both old and new technology. It was important to leave no features behind, so we designed the website responsive and ensured that everything works well on any type of internet-enabled device.
All Beyond Web clients are entitled to unlimited web support after their website goes live because we want our customers to be able to find what they need whether or not it’s during business hours. We want our customers to put their best foot forward and be able to enjoy managing their website.
